Choose to Be Happy Today đź’›
Let’s talk about something simple but really powerful: you can choose to have a good day. Not a perfect day. Not a fake “everything is amazing” day. Just a better, lighter, more gentle kind of day. Happiness doesn’t always show up on its own. Sometimes you have to invite it in.
One thing I always do (and I really recommend this to everyone I work with) is start my day by saying, “Today is going to be a great day.” Either in my head or out loud. It might sound small, but it genuinely helps set the tone for how you move through your day.
Then I like to imagine three little things that could make my day better. Nothing big or fancy. It could be my morning coffee, a good breakfast, a workout, a full day spent with my boyfriend, or a walk on the beach. It’s always the little things that end up mattering the most.
I know it’s not always easy. Some mornings you wake up and your mood just isn’t there. That’s real. But even just trying… even getting up, even deciding to show up for yourself anyway - that takes strength. And I really need you to know that counts. That’s something to be proud of.
If your day feels a bit heavy, here are a few gentle things you can try:
1. Do one tiny thing for yourself
Make your bed, drink water, do your makeup, or wear something you love. It can be something that makes you feel pretty, but also something that helps you feel like you’re showing up for yourself. Even the smallest things are a way of saying “I’ve got you.”
2. Get a bit of fresh air
Trust me - this is a big one. Step outside or take a walk. Even a few minutes can help clear your head and shift your energy.
3. Mute the noise for a while
Put your phone down, log off for a bit, and give your mind a break from all the input. Journal, reflect, or just sit with your own thoughts for a moment. Sometimes it helps to slow everything down so you can actually hear yourself again.
4. Talk to someone you like
Send a message, check in with a friend. Connection can really lift your mood more than we think. Plan a coffee date, make a little plan to see someone you love, or simply remind yourself that you don’t have to do life alone.
5. Move your body a little
Stretch, dance, walk. Nothing intense, just enough to release tension and get your energy flowing again. And if you can’t seem to force yourself to do it, book a class and let them do the forcing for you. Sometimes having someone else guide you is exactly what you need.
6. Notice one good thing
Look for something simple that feels good right now. Sunlight, music, or even just a calm moment. It can also be something you did well, or something you don’t usually take the time to give yourself credit for. Sometimes we move through life so fast that we forget to notice the little things we’re actually doing right.
7. Let yourself restart
If your morning or day didn’t start well, it doesn’t mean it’s ruined. You can reset at any point. Take a breath, let go of how it “should’ve” gone, and simply start again from right here.
8. Hydrate your body + eat nourishing food
When you drink enough water and eat foods that actually nourish you, your whole system works better. Your brain, energy levels, and mood are all connected to what you fuel yourself with. When you’re dehydrated or running on empty, it can make you feel tired, irritable, anxious, or low without even realizing why. But when you’re nourished and hydrated, you support your body in supporting you.
